bedizen, a jewelry line created by designer Kaia Black, has been in development for several years. While living in New York and working in the art field, Black’s career allowed her to travel throughout Africa, Europe, and Asia, where she was exposed to a variety of cultural traditions and art. Her experiences led Black to her first introductory jewelry class at the Fashion Institute of Technology (NYC). She later took classes at Kristin Hanson jewelry school (Bklyn), Liloveve (Bklyn), and an extended study course with goldsmith Dan Valencia at DC Jewelry School in Washington, DC.

Her designs draw on reconstructing and deconstructing found objects, shapes, and forms while embracing textural elements. Her penchant for design and accessories is instinctive; she submerges herself in the cathartic process, transforming metal, wax, and wire into pieces that adorn the body.

Now a Washingtonian, Black continues shaping her up-and-coming jewelry lines.
